Steve Christiancy

March 29, 1962 — November 28, 2021

Memorial service for Steve will be live streamed on Hutchins Facebook page.

Steven Royal Christiancy was born on March 29, 1962, to loving parents, Kathryn and Bob Christiancy. When Steve turned five, he moved to Franklin, NE, with his brother Jim. His sister, Lisa was born a few years later. Steve loved being outdoors from the time he could walk, often exploring the river with his dad and brother. He also loved hunting for Indian arrowheads with his father.

Steve played football throughout high school with his favorite coach, Bob James. He also began working at the OK Tire Store with his brother and father. The Tire store became Steve’s second home and he spent most of his life creating deep friendships with people throughout the community of Franklin. He discovered hobbies he would continue to enjoy throughout life, including welding, building demo derby cars, stock car racing, trap shooting, and hunting.

Steve began building demo cars in the early eighties and loved being behind the wheel as he competed in local races. He spent many hours building the “perfect” demo derby car before moving on to stock car racing. Steve’s first stock car was a Pontiac LeMans he built with Dave Duncan, a life-long friend. Later in life, Steve would enjoy attending demo derby races as he watched his nephew and niece race in their own demo cars.

In 1997 Steve bought forty acres of land outside Franklin. He was happiest when his family surrounded him as they built campfires or looked for the next big buck. The farm became his favorite place to escape the stress of life. He often came home to excitedly report about the bobcat or the quail he saw that day.

Steve was also a hunter who enjoyed going to Colorado to hunt elk with his friends and family. His hard work ethic carried over into every aspect of his life. He wanted to do everything to the best of his ability and felt a lot of pride in the success of his elk hunts.

He was also involved with the 4-H Trap Shooting Club, The Young Guns and helped form the Valley Gun Club. He spent many hours mentoring the youth who participated, taking joy in seeing them perform at the Mid-Nebraska Trap Conference and Cornhusker State Shoot.  He formed many friendships at the trap range throughout the years. He was a generous, giving person who would never hesitate to help anyone who asked.

He also loved going to Estes, Colorado on family vacations. He would look forward to taking ATVs along some mountain trails or sitting next to the river helping his nieces and nephews catch trout. Even in Estes Park, Co. the racer in him came out and he would challenge his family to race him at the go kart track.

Steve was also a devoted son who had a close relationship with his mother and father. He recalled memories of watching his father make Sunday morning pancakes or camping by the river. One of his greatest joys in life was spending countless hours hunting with his father and brother, Jim. Steve enjoyed sharing trap shooting with his mother later in her life. He was always a loving person who valued his family more than anything else in life. Steve worked at the O.K. Tire Store until 2012. In 2011, Steve met his future wife, Linda Whiteside. He married her on Sept. 8, 2012.

Steve was a loving husband who never forgot a birthday or a Valentine’s Day. He enjoyed going to flea markets and antiques looking for the next treasure. He also loved going to Colorado with his wife and enjoyed seeing the elk at Rocky Mountain National Parks. He continued to enjoy hunting, spending what he always called quality time looking for deer. He also loved dutch oven cooking and spent many hours perfecting the perfect upside-down pineapple cake or apple cobbler.

In 2012 he worked at Royal Air Composites, making new friends. He continued to enjoy hunting deer with his friends and elk in Colorado. In 2019, he decided to retire and immediately rediscovered his love for wielding. He enjoyed creating horseshoe art for his wife and nieces. Steve also spent more time trap shooting at the Minden Gun Club with his nephew and brother. In February of 2020, Steve had the blessing of attending the wedding of his nephew.

As a young man, he was devoted to his family, taking pride in building his dad’s business. He loved being an uncle and often teased his niece about kanagacorns and made sure they always “found” quarters when they went camping. Steve was a loving uncle and husband who touched so many lives for the better. He spread the gift of kindness wherever he went. He was a gentle soul who always found excitement in seeing tracks of deer or a turkey during one of his many long drives along country roads. Steve passed from this life unexpectedly Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the age of 59 years. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Christiancy; brother Jim and wife Colette; sister Lisa Hoffman; and his nieces and nephews.
