Lucinda “Luci” Faye (Grabast) Grube was born September 11, 1956 in Superior Nebraska. She passed on to Heaven on January 21, 2021 at her home in Franklin, with her husband at her side, following a courageous 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held January 25, 2021 at 2pm at the Crossgate Church in Franklin Nebraska, with Pastor Kasey Loschen officiating. Hutchins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Masks will be required at the Celebration, in honor of Luci’s battle.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for a community project

Lucinda was born to LeRoy and Evelyn (Hollis) Grabast in Superior Nebraska, the oldest of four children. The family moved frequently in Lucinda’s youngest years, due to her father’s line of work. Luci learned at a very early age to be independent, responsible, and hard-working.

The family eventually landed in Franklin Nebraska where Luci attended school and graduated with the class of 1974 from Franklin High. During her high school years, she worked at the Frosty Mug Drive-In in Franklin, and eventually met the love of her life, Wes.

Wes and Lucinda were united in marriage on September 14, 1974 at the Macon United Methodist Church.  During their early married years, Wes and Luci enjoyed their friends and each other. Luci held various jobs such as driving the school bus, and working at the fiberglass plant Greyson Tool here in Franklin. She was known to be the “best glass gun runner” there was.

Cassie Nicole was born to this union on May 21, 1980 followed by Andrew Wesley on May 20, 1982. Luci was the best mother, she always put her children first. She spent most of her time reading to them, teaching them, and laughing with them.  While her kids were small, she enjoyed helping with the leadership of Cub Scouts,

4-H Clubs, and she also judged several small animal competitions at local fairs. Cassie and Andy were her pride and joy, and the focus of her adult life. She always made sure her kids had what they needed, and then some. Christmas was always a huge deal to Luci, she enjoyed those special times and we are so blessed to have had one last Christmas with her.

Throughout her lifetime Luci enjoyed many activities including, country dancing with Wes, sand and league volleyball, crocheting, sewing, baking, crafting, and cooking for her family. She enjoyed hunting with Wes and working side by side with him on the farm and remodeling houses. She enjoyed the farm life prior to the families move to town, taking care of the baby calves was her favorite time. She loved all animals big and small, as well as gardening and flowers. She was near always found in her beautiful backyard flower garden tending to and enjoying the outdoor beauty. Luci also enjoyed shopping, especially dragging Wes up and down each aisle at Wal-Mart every chance she could.

Luci has the most extensive collection of chicken décor in her kitchen and house as well. She could never pass up a chicken purchase.

Her gentle and kind spirit made her a joy to many and she was often caught laughing so hard she had tears running down her cheeks.

Luci was the definition of hard-work and determination. She never saw a job she couldn’t complete well. She loved telling Wes what to do in most of these projects, as sometimes, he just didn’t get stuff done fast enough to her liking, though, Wes didn’t always listen.  All joking aside, Wes and Luci were inseparable for almost 50 years. They were like 2 peas in a pod, milk and cookies, you didn’t ever have just one of them.

Luci started the “Grube Chicken Ranch” in the 1980s and raised, processed, sold several thousand birds per year. Her largest number was 14,000 processed birds in 1997 her final year of this business. In their next endeavor, Wes and Luci spent time together in a multi-level marketing business called, Espial, where they met many great people.

Luci also ran a state-inspected pizza/chicken wings/casseroles take-out kitchen from her home for a time called “Lucheez”. She stayed very busy and greatly enjoyed her kitchen time and customers.

Luci held management positions and various jobs in Franklin before landing at the CPI (COOP) convenience store. It was from here she was forced to retire upon her diagnosis in October 2019.

Luci’s family was her priority. She put herself last in all she did. She helped raise and love her grandchildren and we are forever grateful for the time and values she instilled in them. Her house will always be “Grandma’s House” and we will continue to teach them as she taught us.

Her cancer fight was great, of course not for herself, but for her husband, kids and grandkids. Throughout her battle we never once heard Luci complain, she never cried, or felt sorry for herself. She once said, “Well, I’m just not a quitter, its not in me”. She even told the grandkids in one of her last days “I will be better tomorrow”.

She fought many battles in life, long and hard, and we know that she heard “well done, good and faithful servant, well done”. She had a true servant’s heart.

We also rest easy knowing that at the gates of Heaven she was welcomed by her family, friends, and many beloved pets that went before her.

Lucinda leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, Wes. Children: Cassie Grube-Schmidt, Andy and Amy Grube all of Franklin. Grandchildren: Isaak, Ayden, Hadleigh, Kynadi, and River all of Franklin. Parents LeRoy and Evelyn Grabast of Franklin. Brothers Tim Grabast of Hastings, Chris (Lisa) Grabast of Lawrence Kansas and sister Teresa Hlavac of Franklin. Sister-In-Law Crystal (Rodney) Frerichs, Brothers and Sisters-In-Law Dick (Ann) Grube, Judy Grube, Stan (Roma) Grube, Bill (Angie) Grube. Numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles as well as many dear friends.

She was preceeded in death by her mother and father-in-law Albert and Laoma Grube, her brother-in-law Steve Grube, her grandparents Lawrence and Inez Grabast and Ora and Faye Hollis.
