Norma Jelken

August 5, 1927 — July 5, 2018

Norma Jean (Dallmann) Jelken was born August 5, 1927 to George Dallmann and Eva (Walters) on a farm northwest of Macon, Nebraska. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Franklin Care and Rehab Center in Franklin, Nebraska.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Macon Methodist Church. She attended an elementary school just west of their home and graduated from Franklin High School. Following graduation, she taught school for 2 years. While working at the “dime store “in Franklin, she met the love of her life, Frank (Frankie) Jelken. They were married October 24, 1948 and made their home on a farm north of Franklin, Nebraska.

They attended the Methodist church in Franklin. There was a pew you could always find them sitting in or perhaps she was singing in the choir. They lived on their farm until Frank entered the Nursing home in Franklin and she followed shortly thereafter. To this union four children were born, Janet, Dennis, Martin, and Holly.

Norma Jean was a faithful wife and worked alongside her husband on the farm they built. You could frequently find her with a paintbrush in her hand painting a piece of machinery Frank had made, the pasture gates or any of the buildings. She loved flowers, all kinds and colors and you could find them planted all over the farmstead. It saddened her to leave her chickens and all the flowers when she entered the care center but a few African violets did go with her.

She leaves to morn her passing daughter Janet Staehr and husband Jim of Utica, son Dennis and wife Teri of Macon, son Martin and wife Debra of Franklin and daughter Holly and Husband Don of Aurora. Step granddaughter, Deanna (Mark) Slawnyk, Utica; Step-grandson Jay Staehr, York; grandchildren - Bryan (Megan) Jelken Juniata; Kimberly (Jason)Haussermann, Franklin; Jami (Grant) Schmidt, Henderson; Benjamin Jelken and (fiancée Maggie McManus) Kearney; Jenna (Tyler) Vettel Grand Island and Kristen (Austin) Edwards of Lincoln. Three step great grandsons Trevor, Justin and Devin Slawnyk, and great grandchildren David and Logan Jelken, Barett and Johanna Hausserman, Austin and Taylor Schmidt, Avery Vettel and Gracelyn Edwards. Three sister-in-law’s, Louisa Kinney and Elverna Herrick of Franklin and Irene Lodge of Texas in addition to several cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, sister and brother-in-law Elnora and William (Bill) Ingram, and three brother-in-law’s, Earl Kinney, Lowell Herrick and Don Lodge.
