Mildred Flathers

December 29, 1923 — September 1, 2012

Mildred Flathers, 88, of Franklin, Nebraska passed away at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital, Saturday, September 1, 2012. She was born near Reamesville, Kansas to John and Veda (Cook) Flathers on December 29, 1923.

While growing up the family moved from a farm near Reamesville to Franklin, then to Oxford, and returned to stay in Franklin. She loved to play softball on the Franklin team. She also loved horses, cats, dogs and to hunt and fish.

Mildred had been a bookkeeper for the John Deere dealership, the Chrysler dealership, and at the Franklin County Courthouse. She also cared for her mother and father until their deaths.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

After breaking a hip, Mildred needed in-home care. At that time, Martina Thomas became her caregiver and friend.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John, Jr. who died at the age of 16.

She is survived by sister, Betty Murray of Salem, Oregon; nephew Michael Murray and wife Sandy of Crossville, Tennessee and niece Patti Witt and husband Terry of Salem, Oregon.

We will always remember the wonderful times we got to spend visiting you, Aunt Mil...the trips to Naden's Pharmacy on Main Street for a vanilla phosphate and the walks up to spend a quarter at the 5 & 10 cent store. Those were the days.

Memorials to the Franklin Senior Center.
