Leland Neal Wentworth, 87, of Franklin, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. Neal was born on September 3, 1938, on the family farm east of Franklin to Joseph Ray and Emma Wentworth.
Neal lived a life rooted in hard work and passion for the land. He was a devoted farmer who loved operating his dozer and spent countless hours shaping the fields he cherished. An avid hunter, Neal enjoyed the outdoors and the thrill of the hunt. Later in life, he embraced square dancing, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gaylene; his children, Norman and wife Donna, Douglas and wife Michelle, Marvin, and daughter-in-law Sally, Cheryl Johnson and husband Duane; his grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle, Sarah, Nathan, Sam, Emily, Mollie, Spencer, and Logan. Neal was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren who were a source of pride and happiness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma, and his sons, Merlin and Leland Jr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Crossgate Community Church in Franklin, Nebraska with Pastor Kasey Loschen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin County Museum. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to AseraCare Hospice, Crossgate Community Church, Hutchins Funeral Home and Pastor Jay Towell for their support and care.
