Forrest League

August 4, 1916 — February 26, 2009

Forrest "Frosty" Shaffer League died and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 26, 2009 in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 92 years. Frosty was born on August 4, 1916 in Smith Center, Kansas to George and Susan (Shaffer) League. As a child, the family moved from Smith Center to the Bloomington and Naponee, Nebraska area. He attended Bloomington Public School and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1936. After high school, Frosty moved to Franklin, Nebraska, where he was employed by the State of Nebraska Highway Maintenance Department. After his retirement, Frosty moved to Republican City, where he lived with his sister, Fern, until the time of her death. At that time, he moved to Fairfield, Nebraska, where he lived with his brother, Paul. With his health declining, he moved to Perkins Pavilion at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska, where he lived until the time of his death. Frosty was always willing to help others whenever needed, and enjoyed leatherworking with the Boy Scouts.

He leaves to treasure his memory one brother, Paul League of Wood River, Nebraska; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Frosty is preceded in death by his parents, George and Susan League, and one sister, Fern Dennis.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Hutchins Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Visitation will be from 8AM to service time on Monday, March 2, 2009. The family suggests memorials to the Forrest S. League Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
