We are saddened to announce the passing of Dwayne Heer at the age of 85, of Naponee, NE. He was born on December 22, 1939 to Opal (Tomlin) and Ivan Heer in Abilene, KS. He passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. At 22, he enlisted in the US Army, completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO then transferred to his duty assignment in Germany. He really enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, seeing castles, historical sites, and having experiences only Europe had to offer. After receiving a good conduct metal and honorable discharge, Dwayne returned to Nebraska to farm, which he continued for the next 60 years. Dwayne was an avid reader, especially National Geographic magazine and books on history, he was frequently called a walking encyclopedia. He enjoyed traveling and in recent years he was able to travel with his daughters to Corpus Christi, TX, Niagara Falls, NY, Panama City, FL, Ontario, Canada, and Keystone, SD. Dwayne was always ready to take his daughters, nieces and nephews on various road trips. You never knew where you’d wind up so it was wise to keep tp, water and a snack at the ready for when Dwayne said it was time to hit the road. One of his favorite spots was the geographic center of the continental United States. You’d often see Dwayne driving his pickup looking at the fields and pastures with his pet chicken, Scratch, by his side. His loyal dog Shasta was not far behind and was always ready to help with cows and companionship. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Left to mourn this great loss are his daughters Carmen Dunn (Chad) of Corpus Christi, TX, Christina Kemp (Charles) of Panama City, FL, brother Larry (Sue) Heer of Kensington, KS, sister Connie (Lonnie) Hunt of Franklin, NE. Grandson’s Tambren Bennett of Oklahoma City, and Tatum Dunn (Corpus Christi) granddaughter’s Zoey Kemp (Panama City) and Tarynn Dunn (Corpus Christi). Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces. We are very grateful to the following for all their love, support and prayers. Rex and Brenda Thomas of Franklin, Tyler Daniels of Bloomington, Chane and Shelly McDowell of Minden. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Accura Care team for their continuous care and support of Dwayne. While in Accura's care, Dwayne got the best treatment and respect. We are especially grateful to Kim Grams, Patty Sweet, Cynthia Pettit, Brooke Pettit, and Ruth Ransom. We are grateful to Dwayne's neighbors and friends for always coming to see how he was doing during his farming career.
