Dorothy Barker

August 28, 1925 — March 13, 2016

Dorothy Louise Barker was born August 28, 1925, at El Reno, Oklahoma, to Frederick William and Carolina Albertina (Pregizer) Huchtemann, and died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

Dorothy was a graduate of Franklin High School with the class of 1943. She married Leonard Eugene Barker on March 14, 1946, at Smith Center, Kansas. To this union two children were born - Ronald and William.

Dorothy and Leonard lived in Republican City for over 50 years. She served as the city clerk of Republican City. Dorothy was the assistant to the superintendent of Republican City School for many years in her younger life and she was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was the postmaster at Republican City, Nebraska, before retiring.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents - Frederick and Carolina Huchtemann; four sisters - Augusta, Alice, Annie and Edith; two brothers - Henry and Walter.

She is survived by her two sons - Ronald and wife Tarica Barker of Sandwich, Illinois, and William and wife, Jeannette Barker of Hastings, Nebraska; five grandchildren - Tim and wife Andrea Barker, Tom and wife, Amy Barker, Shawn Paulson, Christine and husband, Rick Hock, and Randy and wife, Renee Paulson; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws - Lois Bobbitt of Apache Junction, Arizona and Ellen Blank, Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Dorothy Louise Barker will be (was) Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hutchins Funeral Home Chapel, Franklin, Nebraska, with Pastor Anthony Trevarton officiating. The family will be (was) receiving friends on Saturday, March 19, 2016, one hour before service. Music will be (was) provided by Mrs. Connie Kahrs organist and Dave Rocker, soloist. The hymns were: "Amazing Grace" and "Old Rugged Cross." Casket bearers will be (were): Tim Barker, Tom Barker, Max Barker, Connor Barker, Shawn Paulson, Randy Paulson, and Ronni Hodges. Interment will be was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bloomington, Nebraska, next to her husband. Visitation will be (was) Friday, March 18, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska.
