Doris Wentworth

September 28, 1922 — September 23, 2018

Doris Marilyn Leopold , daughter of Burton and Pearl Leopold, was born at home in Kenesaw, Nebraska where she grew up, the youngest of seven children, including 3 brothers Glenn, Floyd, La Vaughn; and 3 sisters, one of whom died at birth, Eldora (Porter) and Violet (Stuhmer). Marilyn graduated from high school with an additional course of college credits qualifying in Normal training to be a school teacher. Her first job was in a small rural school in District 6 east of Franklin, and according to letters from students later in life was much beloved.

While teaching, Marilyn met Donald Wentworth in Sunday School class. They began dating, and were married March 28, 1943, in Kenesaw. From then on, Marilyn was a hard-working farm wife, daughter-in-law, and mother to daughter Sandra and later son Dane. When times were lean, she became a nursing aide at the Franklin Nursing Home where she served 22 years until her health forced her to retire.

Preceded in death by her husband Donald, she lived in her house in Franklin until moving into the Golden Age Living apartments for several years, then she moved to Franklin Assisted Living. Finally her health required her to reside at the Franklin Care and Rehabilitation Center until her passing on September 23.

Marilyn was a woman of strong faith and a believer in the power of prayer. She remained active and supportive to her church through many changes, loyal to the church she first joined along with her husband, Donald. She loved music, especially hymns and played the violin for many years. She was a Neighborly Neighbor in the farm women’s organization. She saw her children grow up and graduate from the Franklin Public Schools, go on to college and achieve successful careers in their respective fields of Arts education and Manufacture engineering.

Marilyn is survived by her children Sandra and Dane, grandsons David Wentworth, Daniel Wentworth and great-grandchildren Kingston Lee and Leona.
