Charles Dunn

November 14, 1918 — January 5, 2009

Charles William Dunn, 90 years old, was born the fourth of five children to Hiram Jacob Dunn and Maude May (Moffet) Dunn on November 14, 1918 in Douglas, Wyoming. He departed this life January 5th at Perkins Pavillion, Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska. Charles graduated from Inavale High School, class of 1938. After graduation, he rode the rails west to pick fruit in Washington state for a time. He later was employed by a construction company, building bridges and roads in Franklin and Webster counties. On March 3, 1941, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Reynolds. To this union two daughters, Linda, and Patricia, and two sons, Dennis and Michael were born. The family lived and farmed south of Inavale before moving to Bloomington in 1947. Charles was employed by the Corps of Engineers, driving truck hauling whatever was needed to construct the dam in Harlan county. In 1950, the family moved to a farm southwest of Bloomington where Charles continued to work on the dam, and farmed where the family home is today.
For over 30 years, until 87 years old, Charlie drove gravel trucks for Amman Sand and Gravel and Bladen Sand and Gravel, meeting hundreds of people along the way graveling their driveways and county roads. Charlie really enjoyed meeting people, and once you met Charlie Dunn, you had a friend for life.

He is survived by sister and her husband Barb and Wally Bean, sister-in-law Eunice, Charles's wife, Dorothy, his daughters Linda Hadley and husband John of Republican City, Pat Goebel and husband Everett of Hastings; sons, Dennis Dunn and wife Karan of Lincoln, Mike Dunn and wife Pamela of Naponee. Charles also leaves grandchildren and their spouses: Michelle and Todd, Patrick and Val, Angie and Dennis, Shane, Annette and Tyler, Chad and Carmen, Kevin and Desiree, Cory and Melissa, Kristi and Brad; great-grandchildren: Trey, Courtney, Artyom, Nigel, Avery, Dasha, Lauren, Jaden, Josh, Allison, Hope, and Zachary. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene, Edward and one sister Ellen.

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Friday, January 9, 2008 at Hutchins Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Lauber officiating. Visitation will be from 9AM to 8PM Wednesday, and Thursday, January 7th and 8th. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bloomington, Nebraska. The family suggests memorials to the Charles Dunn Memorial Fund.
