Betty Jean Long passed away on August 2 at the Arbor Care Center in Franklin. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky 9-22-1927 to Elmer and Marie Hollobaugh. Her father was a stone mason requiring them to move often into the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama and Ohio. As the oldest of six children she became the caretaker of her five siblings, Pearl “Pat”, Sarah, Jackie, Renie, Tide Quiet (TQ), and Martha. It was on a dance floor in Mobile, Alabama that a young man from Nebraska wearing his Navy uniform cut in on her partner. That dance lasted for 70 years and the raising of four children. They moved back to Franklin, Nebraska in 1949 so Keith could help his father run Long’s Café. She lost her southern accent but never her Southern roots. She assisted with Sunday school classes, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and Circle. Betty surrounded herself with family, friends, and especially young people and children her entire life. She always looked forward to camping with friends and family. The door to her home was always open to everyone anytime, day or night. They would be greeted with a big smile, a cooked meal and a place to sleep, if need be. She was always the last one to clean up and turn the lights off in her house and often said with great affection and a small laugh, “when I’m gone, I’ll turn the lights off in Franklin” a town with people she dearly loved.
Betty is survived by her children; Martha Reppert (Tom) Crofton MD., Keith (Buster) Long (Jan) McPherson KS, Elmer (Tom) Long, Franklin NE and Kenny Joe Long (Lona) Kearney, NE, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters and multiple nieces and nephews from the Long, Meyer, and Hollobaugh families.
She is preceded in death by her husband Keith Long, two brothers and two sisters.

Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin, Nebraska. The family is inviting everyone to a reception afterwards at the Grace Lutheran Church.
