Betty LaVonne (Young) Fuller was born in Cambridge, Nebraska to Machier and Ellen (Cotton) Young on March 7, 1932. She was the 4th of seven children. She passed from this life Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Accura Care Center, Franklin, Nebraska at the age of 93 years.

Betty attended Hastings Public Schools while her father worked at the WWII Ammunition Plant. She graduated in 1950 from Hastings and moved to Kearney, Nebraska where she met Melvin Fuller, Jr. He was soon drafted and then deployed to Korea. Betty always said she was in the service as well because she had to wait at home alone. They were married March 3, 1951 when Mel came home on leave.

Following the war, they started their family in Kearney. Three children were born: Jacqueline (Stuart Wilsman), Franklin, NE, Gary of Tubac, AZ, and Larry (Kathy Myer), Pappillion, NE. Mel worked for Keenan’s Beverages while Betty stayed at home raising their children.

Later Betty worked in factories in Kearney; first Baldwins and then Eaton’s. Upon retirement, Betty & Mel spent time caring for her parents and babysitting for grandchildren.

They moved to Franklin in 1996 and helped Jacquie and Stu cope with their grandson, Joe Wilsman. Betty joined several clubs. The UCC Women’s Fellowship, the Franklin Women’s Club, the Franklin County Museum, and Bloomington P.E.O.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mel in 2017; brothers Holmes Young and friend Perry Franklin, Gordon and Edna Young, Wallace, and Margaret young; brother-in-law Jim Rodgers; sisters Beverly Ankenman and Barbara Little.

She will be forever remembered by her children; grandchildren: Brett Fuller (Jennifer), Omaha, Kyle Fuller (Emily), Bennington, Anthony Wilsman (Carrie), Crete, and Joseph Wilsman, Lincoln; great grandchildren: Henry and Hudson Fuller, Sutton and Lennox Fuller, Avery, James and Juliet Wilsman; sister Bonnie Rodgers; brothers-in-law Donald Ankenman and Fred Little; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and a community of friends.

As direct cremation services were chosen, a Memorial service will be held 10:00am Friday, July 18, 2025 at the United Congregational Church, Franklin, Nebraska with Pastor Jay Towell officiating. Graveside inurnment service will be 3:30pm that day at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, S 14th Street, Lincoln, NE where Betty will be laid to rest by husband Melvin Fuller. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to AsceraCare Hospice in C/O the family or Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, NE who assisted the Fuller family with these arrangements.
