ALMA LEAH (THURGOOD) TANQUARY
On the 21st of November, 1923, in London, England, H. L. and Alice (Skipp) Thurgood welcomed their new baby girl, Alma Leah to their world. Alma remained in London through her school years. Upon graduation from high school, she joined the Royal Air Force on December 15, 1942 and learned to drive an ambulance. During her service, she met and married the love of her life, Ralph E. Tanquary. At the end of the war, she was discharged from service on October 11, 1945. She then made the trek from England to be reunited with her husband in Bloomington, Nebraska.
She quickly settled in to her new life, and new surroundings. She and Ralph were blessed with 2 children, Caroleen and husband, Gary Bruns of Pierce, Nebraska, and Eric and wife, Karen Tanquary of Topeka, Kansas.
She worked diligently to make her home a welcome and comfortable place to visit. She was an avid knitter, and an accomplished seamstress and cook.
Alma held many jobs outside the home, most recently at the Co-op in Franklin, Nebraska from where she retired in 2006.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter-in-law - Denise Tanquary, and 2 sisters - Peggy and Vera. She is survived by her children; 4 grandchildren - Mike and wife, Sherry Bruns, Jeff and wife, Dona Bruns, Kimberly, and huband, Mark McKinley, and Christopher and wife, Alex Tanquary; 2 step grandchildren - Lisa and husband, Bob Ross, and Kim and husband, Shawn Myers; 8 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece-Shirley and husband, Raymond Wall; nephews-Richard and wife, Nancy Mowatt, and David Whitmarsh, all of London, England.
Alma left her earthly home on March 27, 2019 in Topeka, Kansas. The family will receive friends on April 19, 2019 from 5PM to 7PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin, Nebraska. A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April, 20, 2019, at the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska, with Pastor Phil Sloat officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomington, Nebraska.
